In December, volunteers from Serbia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, China, Spain, France, Italy, and Germany joined forces to help homeless animals in Thessaloniki and, more broadly, raise awareness of this issue worldwide.
As we've written in previous articles, helping animals is a multifaceted topic that can manifest itself in a variety of forms. Throughout December, our team held performances in two schools, organized a major manifesto at the end of the month with a live stream of our research results on YouTube, distributed informational leaflets on the streets, and much more.
In the first week of December, project participants took over a hundred photographs of stray cats and dogs in various areas of the city. These photos later became the basis for a calendar.
The calendar is a wonderful opportunity to gently educate people about the issue of homeless animals and also invite them to make a donation in exchange for a printed version of the calendar. This makes supporting the project simple, accessible, and understandable for everyone.
The calendar will be available not only in printed format but also in digital format. We would be very grateful if you could spread the word about the Pawsitive Park project and the Esai En Roi organization, thereby supporting our work and spreading the word.
The calendar distribution will take place on January 30th at 5:00 PM at Villa Mordoch (Leof. Vasilissis Olgas 162, Thessaloniki). We would be happy to see you and chat in person! You may also write to lev.me.vision@gmail.com if you want to order a calendar.
The calendar itself is priceless; a printed version will be included as a gift when you register for our paid subscription. With a paid subscription, you will have access to all content and more!
One time payment: 20 euros. Disabled people, children, and pensioners will get a discount.
Curious to learn how the calendar was created? Then read on!
We've already described the idea and photographs above. The calendar was designed by Leo, a member of the Esai En Roi organization from Estonia. The idea immediately caught his attention, as he approaches projects not only from a graphic design perspective but also from a marketing perspective. His principle is simple: if you want people to listen and engage, it's important to give them something in return. This may sound a bit harsh, but in reality, audiences often pass by if they have nothing to offer in return for their time and attention.
The calendar's color palette was chosen based on the associations associated with each month. For example, January is designed in dark blue tones, reflecting the middle of winter and cold weather, while February is in light blue tones, symbolizing the anticipation of warmer weather, sun, and spring in March. Each month of the year was designed using the same principle.
Some challenges arose during the photo editing stage. There were a large number of them, and each image had its own mood and quality. To unify the calendar's visual style and create a cohesive look, it was decided to convert all photographs to black and white and remove the background. This allowed for a unified structure across the pages and visually linked them. Furthermore, the freed-up space allowed for more color, enhancing the overall design.
During the development process, it was also decided to include illustrations celebrating Greek national holidays. This not only made the calendar more visually interesting but also gave it additional cultural significance, particularly relevant to the local audience.
Thanks for your attention and see you there!
