The Treasure Game "PINE GAME" was held with great success at Karatasou Park.
On Sunday 18 May 2025, from 11:00 to 13:00, the interactive educational activity "Oions' CIRCLE", at the former Karatasiou Camp (Oions' Park), was held with great success, in the framework of the Environmental Education Program "Civil Sustainability" of Esai en Roi, which is being implemented for the second consecutive year. The event was held under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Sports and with the support of the KARATASOU Neighbourhood Planning Committee.
The action was attended by representatives of PERKA (Periactic Farmers in KARATASOU) and ESAI EN ROI.
Starting from the Municipal Entrance Hall of the Municipality of Pavlos Melas and with stations scattered around the Karatasiou Interdisciplinary Park, the participants explored the neighbourhood, decoded puzzles and engaged in tests that highlighted the importance of cooperation, physical exercise and environmental awareness.
Participation and Community
The event was supported by 15 volunteers (teachers and parents) from the 4th Primary School of Polihni, while players were families and teachers from:
4th, 5th, 12th, 13th and 17th Primary Schools of Polihni and Stavros,
4th, 5th, 5th, 8th and 12th Kindergarten of Polihni,
as well as families from Stavroupolis schools, whose participation was added spontaneously, without official registration.
Educational Dimension - Linking to the 17 Sustainable Development GoalsThe "OIONS GAME" was not just a game, but a multi-layered learning experience that reflects fundamental values of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Goal 3: Good health and well-being through physical activity,
Goal 4: Quality education, through experiential and interdisciplinary learning,
Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities, activating public space,
Goal 17: Collaboration to achieve the goals, with an emphasis on school-neighborhood-family synergy.
The use of Karatasios Park, an urban habitat with tremendous potential for gentle utilization, enhanced the participants' experience and underscored the need to protect and utilize public natural resources for the benefit of the community.
Parallel Actions and Competitions
During the "Hunting" event, two parallel competitions were implemented, which enhanced the creative and research character of the event:
Graffiti Photo Contest: Teams were asked to identify and record eight different buildings with graffiti, documenting each photo with comments on aesthetics, utility and suggestions for improvement. The competition highlighted the dialogue between street art and public space.
Mapping Potential Sports Venues: In another challenge, teams sought out eight sites with existing concrete foundations that could be converted into sports venues in the future. The challenge helped to highlight the relationship between urban design and healthy lifestyles through the eyes of citizens.
Results and Impressions
All activities were achieved with fun, cooperation and creativity. The teams were rewarded at each station, with the first ones receiving the most prizes. The team that completed the main game first was declared the winner, according to the rules.
The objectives of the activity - enhancing physical and mental abilities, social and digital skills, as well as linking the educational process with the public space and sustainability - were fully achieved.
Warm thanks to all concerned
to all participants, volunteers, local sponsors, teachers and families who warmly supported the event. Civic Sustainability continues its work to develop active citizenship and sustainable use of public space.
A big thank you also to the Department of Tourism and Sports Recreation who trusted in the quality of our action and became our helpers by putting the initiative under their auspices!
